Electric Loops

The Electric Loops project investigated the reuse and recycling value of electric vehicles through the dismantling, evaluation and sale of electric vehicle (EV) specific parts from two electric vehicles. Following consultation with ATFs, recyclers and vehicle manufacturers, the project gathered data from two real world examples to develop the matrix of reuse and recycling values and a supporting report targeted at ATFs and metal recyclers.  The project aimed to better understand the electric vehicle value chain from the perspective of ATFs and recyclers, the parties that have the ability to create the circular material loops of the future.

Electric Loops has been funded through the EPA’s Green Enterprise programme. The EPA Green Enterprise programme is a Government of Ireland initiative funded by the Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications.

Electric Loops Project Video

Filmed over two days in 2023, the Electric Loops video documents the depollution and dismantling of two EVs at a host ATF. The video also sets out the project steps, relevant Regulations, highlights the PPE & training recommended to work on EVs and presents some of the key project results.
